The Gateway: Arco Marchesale (Porta Grande)
Your journey begins at the Arco Marchesale (also known as Porta Grande). Until the late 18th century, this imposing stone archway was the only way to enter the town. It was originally equipped with a drawbridge and defensive structures to protect residents from pirate raids. The Heart: Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II

Belvedere Suor Maria Laselva: Located deep in the alleys, this spot offers a dramatic, straight-down view of the crashing turquoise waves and the hidden sea caves.
Largo Ardito: A spacious terrace on the edge of the historic center, ideal for watching the sunset and looking out into the endless blue of the Adriatic horizon.
The Sea of Polignano: Picturesque Coves and Beach Clubs
The most iconic image of Polignano is undoubtedly Lama Monachile (also known as Cala Porto). Nestled right at the entrance of the historic center, this public pebble beach framed by two towering Roman-era cliffs is a sight to behold. Since it is entirely free to access and world-famous, it tends to get crowded very early in the day.
Please note that there are no bookable day beds or tourist structures on this beach. Due to the heavy crowds and the uneven, rocky terrain, visiting Lama Monachile can be quite challenging if you are traveling with kids and toddlers. Additionally, while you can technically rent beach umbrellas from local vendors outside the beach, we highly advise against this; anchoring them securely into the hard, loose pebbles is extremely difficult and highly unstable.

Cala Paura: Located just a short walk from the town center, this is a charming, rustic cove favored by locals, featuring pebbles and colorful traditional fishing boats.
San Vito Beach: Situated in the nearby hamlet of San Vito, this beach is dominated by a majestic Benedictine abbey. It is ideal for those seeking a more relaxed atmosphere and easier access to the water.
Private Beach Clubs & Equipped Beaches
Coco Village (Coze): Perfect for travelers seeking comfort, luxury, and exclusive services. It features elegant wooden platforms built directly onto the rocks, complete with sunbeds and sea access.
Miami Beach (San Vito): Located in the picturesque San Vito area, this fully equipped beach club offers sunbeds, umbrellas, and convenient amenities for a relaxing day by the sea.
Capitolo Beaches (Monopoli): If you prefer wide, sandy shores with full amenities (umbrellas, beach bars, and music), take a short drive to the neighboring town of Monopoli, where you will find excellent beach resorts.
Our Recommendation: If you would like a comfortable beach morning before lunch, we highly recommend booking day beds at Cala di San Giovanni (just a 7-minute drive from Polignano). It is an excellent, fully equipped beach club. Alternatively, Lido Cala Paura is nearby but is a public, rustic beach without advanced booking setups.
For the brave
Polignano is the undisputed world capital of cliff diving, regularly hosting the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series (typically held between late June and September, with the highly anticipated 2026 Italian stop scheduled for September 25–27 as the penultimate round of the season). If you are feeling adventurous and exercise extreme caution, you can join the local youth and try diving off the cliffs surrounding the town.
